They say that the best way to learn something is to teach it to someone else. Your role as a mentor is to guide the students through a business plan and to assist the teacher in clarifying business concepts. The end result is a written business plan for a student-run business and a PowerPoint presentation for competition day. Additionally, being a mentor is flexible to your class/work schedule. Our schools have different times in which they are available to meet so you should not have a problem finding a team that best aligns with your schedule.
As a mentor, you will gain a rewarding experience, serving as a positive role model in the lives of our students. Not only will you gain a better understanding of business plan writing, but you will be helping to shape the lives of the high school students you are mentoring. On competition day, your student team will rise up to the challenge and all your hard work will pay off. The students in our program will gain a passion for enterpreneurship and throughout the course of the programwill have gained skills in writing, presentation and professionalism. More importantly, they will have an increased sense of confidence in school and in themselves.
As you may or may not know, most high schools do not offer courses in business/entrepreneurship so many of these students are being exposed to these concepts for the first time in their lives. Please join Project ECHO in providing entrepreneurship to high school students as an option for their future careers.

Mentor Commitment:
Beginning the week of November 9th, 2009, you will have 12 weeks to schedule your visits and work with your team before the Business Plan Competition in late Febuary/early March (final date TBD).
An added incentive for UCLA Anderson Mentors is that the hours you spend mentoring will count towards your C4C hours.
